Azerbaijan F1 Track Guide
On the coast of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku is the Baku City Circuit, which has been a popular addition to the F1 calendar since 2016. A fast street circuit with walls just millimetres away at any given moment, all six Azerbaijan Grand Prix have had many moments of drama. Whether it be a surprise podium finishers in Lance Stroll (2017) or Sebastian Vettel (2021), teammate clashes between Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, Kimi Räikkönen’s urgent need for gloves and a steering wheel, Max Verstappen’s frightening tyre blowout and Charles Leclerc’s crash at the iconic castle section – you are never far away from something dramatic happening at the Baku City Circuit.
While each of our Azerbaijan Grand Prix Packages comes with a pre-defined grandstand ticket, we’ve created this Azerbaijan F1 Track guide to help you choose an alternative.

As with most Main Grandstands on the F1 calendar, the Absheron Grandstand sits directly opposite the pit building, which means you will see all the action from the pitlane throughout the weekend. As the main straight in Baku is 2.2km, here you will have great views of the long DRS zone which allows for much slipstreaming. It is these seats that will have given you a prime position of the two Red Bull teammates colliding in 2018, and Lewis Hamilton’s massive brake lock-up at the 2021 restart. Often you will see two or three cars abreast as they battle for position into turn 1. As Baku often has much action and stoppages, the Absheron Grandstand will also give you a bird’s eye view of the frantic pitlane action during a red flag period. The Absheron Grandstand is also the closest to the F1 fanzone and all food/drink options.
One of the most popular grandstands on the circuit, the Icheri Sheher stand is located at the exit of the iconic castle section. Do not let the distance from the main part of the track deter you – this grandstand sells out fast for good reason. With a giant screen opposite the stand, you will see the cars come out of the incredibly tight castle corner of the track as they flick through Turns 13 to 15 and accelerate down the downhill final sector of track. Thanks to the nature of the stand and circuit, you will feel directly on top of the F1 cars with plenty of photo opportunities of the cars at slow speed as well as the spectacular backdrop.
One of only two stands that sit on the inside of the circuit, Philarmoniya is located at the apex of Turn 16 – the final corner before the long start/finish straight. A smaller grandstand, Philarmoniya gives you a great view an F1 car’s braking ability with overtakes a chance here before the cars exit onto the straight. There is a small screen located nearby, as well as some refreshment options in close vicinity to Philarmoniya.
The Azneft grandstand sits almost opposite the Philarmoniya stand on the outside of Turn 16. Here you will have some outstanding views of the circuit, being able to see F1 cars front-on flying down the fast downhill back section of the track. Watch in awe as you marvel at an F1 cars’ braking ability as they came to a fast stop before the 90 degree turn onto the main straight. You will have a giant screen in front of you ensuring you won’t miss a thing elsewhere on the track.
If the atmosphere of Baku is what you are after, Giz Galasi is a fantastic choice of stand. Situated at the beginning of the long main straight, you will see the cars come through this kink at full throttle – an important section of track to ensure they have the best run onto the straight. Backdrop wise – you will have some great photo opportunities of the famous Maiden Tower. As with all stands at Baku, Giz Galasi has a giant screen viewable from your seats.
Thanks to the nature of the Baku circuit, the Mugham stand provides dual views of the track. While the stand itself is sat on the long main straight, you will also have a close view of the short straight between Turns 6 and 7 – uniquely seeing cars pass each other in opposite direction. You will never feel far from the action and the Mugham stand is close to plenty of food, drink and merchandise stalls.
On the inside of the main straight is the Khazar stand, where you will be opposite the Bulvar stand. While the cars do pass this grandstand in both directions, you will likely only see the main straight from your seats unless you are at the far right of Khazar, with the sounds of the cars coming through Turn 6 behind you. The atmosphere across the weekend at Khazar is outstanding, and it is a great option if you are looking to be close to the action on the main straight.
A short trip down the main straight from Mugham sit two smaller adjacent grandstands in Sahil and Bulvar. Both grandstands offer fantastic and unobstructed views of the main straight and, similar to the Mugham grandstand, a front on view of the opposite section of track between Turns 5 and 6. Thanks to the high-speed nature of this section of track, you will have the pleasure of seeing F1 cars reach speeds of 350km/h and above. Access to these grandstands are another positive, with both the beach and the F1 fanzone a short walk from your seats.
Grand Prix schedules are normally released in the weeks leading up to the event. While schedules do change year on year, the schedule from 2022 (below) should give a good indication of what to expect and when.
